I just downloaded an application called SipPhone, $6.99. It allows to you an existing SIP account on your iPhone to make calls with Wifi. Similar to Skype (Which isn’t sip based) you can use a voip service like Vonage on your iPhone.
There are many VOIP providers Vonage. Voicestick, PhonePower, Callcentric, Gizmo5, etc. If you get this app and are connected to WiFi you will be able to make and receive calls. So if Vonage offers you free or discounted international calling this is an extension of home account.

The folks over at airlinepilotcentral.com have created a new site dedicated to aviation related applications for the iPhone. The site is called Airline Pilot Apps. If you don’t want to pay for a weather application like Fizz Weather for your phone head to the internet for the next best thing. There are a variety of sites that have dedicated phone friendly data.

Skype has just release a beta version for standard mobile handsets. So if you don’t want to lug around a larger windows mobile phone this solution may be for you. The Skype web site lists Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson as compatible handsets. Check the Skype web site for complete details.
