So the story goes like this. A friend calls me and says his wife got an error message on the computer and tried to fix things. Well what came up was “Do You Want to Restore Your Operating System.” Not understanding the consequences she said sure. A click here a click there and poof all of their data was GONE! I never had the opportunity to see if something else could have been done to the PC without restoring it from scratch. This family lost lots of photos, mp3 files, …

I just downloaded an application called SipPhone, $6.99. It allows to you an existing SIP account on your iPhone to make calls with Wifi. Similar to Skype (Which isn’t sip based) you can use a voip service like Vonage on your iPhone.
There are many VOIP providers Vonage. Voicestick, PhonePower, Callcentric, Gizmo5, etc. If you get this app and are connected to WiFi you will be able to make and receive calls. So if Vonage offers you free or discounted international calling this is an extension of home account.

The folks over at airlinepilotcentral.com have created a new site dedicated to aviation related applications for the iPhone. The site is called Airline Pilot Apps. When you get a chance head over there and give it a read. http://airlinepilotapps.com/ The site is very new and I don’t think it has been officially launched yet. Look for more great things in the future.

If you are on this site chances are you are “geeky” enough to own a laptop. While I love my iPhone I still am on the Internet too much to go without a laptop. Well this week my hard drive died. Caput, say good night, see you later, and I am never coming back! Usually that would mean I couldn’t use my computer until I got back home to replace the drive and restore from my backups. You do back up your data don’t you???
Anyway, you can now run the …

I purchased an iPhone about a month ago and thought I would write about my opinions of the phone to date. Hands down this is the best “smart phone” I have ever owned. My recent phone history: Palm Treo 650, Palm Treo 750, HTC Tilt, and now the iPhone. I have no experience with any of the Blackberry devices so I cannot make a comparision. I have 6 pages of apps so far. Lots of free and lots of pay ones….

Why pay for ringtones when you can make them yourself for free! If you want to convert a favorite mp3 to a ringtone visit the link below to learn how. It’s pretty easy. Once you do it a couple of times it will take a matter of minutes to create new ones. This is limited to the 1st 30 seconds of a song. If you want to choose a different section of a song I recommend downloading Audacity and creating a new Mp3 with the section you want.

LogTen Mobile, in our opinion, is the best logbook application available for the iPhone and Touch devices. If you are a Windows Mobile user we recommend Airline Pilots Daily Logbook program (APDL) by Logbook Pro. Now on to the review!
LogTen offers a typical well rounded iPhone interface. (See screenshots) It is very easy to enter, edit and view data. Most of the limitations with the program are due to how Apple allows programs to run on the iPhone. The biggest wish list item I would like to see and is …

Ok podcast peeps here are a couple of do-it-yourself stands for your iPhone/pod/iWhatever….Great for commuters wedged in the middle seat. Now if they could just create a iphone app that would give you more leg room, thinner passengers, meals, I digress….
Both ideas are from Instructables.com
Business Card Holder
Plastic Card Holder
Yet another holder made from a large paper clip
If you want something slightly more rugged create the same thing with a piece of wire coat hanger. You can use the same template but I would suggest making the back piece slightly taller.
